The Central Laboratory celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2008.
2000s | In the new millennium the Laboratorys work has grown and diversified. Research and development is now focused more on functional characteristics. |
|---|
1996 | The Laboratorys environmental work began when it was observed that there are many ways in which asphalt technology can be used to protect the environment. Environmental projects will keep the Central Laboratory busy well into the new millennium. Internationalisation of the Groups operations and projects abroad require knowledge of foreign standards and test methods. The Laboratorys researchers began standardisation work while monitoring the interests of Finland and especially the Group in different standardisation workgroups. |
|---|
| 1995 | The paint plant was closed down and R&D work on paints ended in the Central Laboratory. The dry product plant was transferred to Tielinja Oy in Tervakoski. The bituminous paints manufactured in Lohja and the cement-based mortars and coatings produced by Tielinja were retained. |
|---|
| 1984 | The Laboratory moved into new premises at Sammonmäki in Tuusula. |
|---|
| 1983 | The laboratories of Lemminkäinen Corporation and its acquired Rakennus Oy Cultor were merged. |
|---|
| 1980s | The number of R&D projects grew strongly. The subjects of the development projects included cement renders, different kinds of paints (roofing tile, oil-based, fire-resistant and sheet metal roof paints), road marking mixes, terrazzo tiles and the wear resistance of concrete headers. |
|---|
| 1973 | The Laboratory moved into larger premises in Pitäjänmäki, enabling the procurement of new equipment, such as a centrifuge, weather chamber and a tensile testing machine capable of measuring the strengths of almost all materials. |
|---|
| 1970s | The products under development included bituminous shingles, better light-weight asphalt concretes for oil-gravel roads in urban conditions, sports surfacings and new products for the paint plant. Polymer-modified bitumen products were developed in partnership with the roofing felt plant. |
|---|
| 1960s | The Laboratory developed cationic bitumen emulsions, bituminous jointing compounds, paints, fillers and façade coatings such as Kenitex. Also under development were special pavements, acid-resistant and coloured asphalts and floor gussasphalts. |
|---|
| 1949 | The first asphalt analyses were made. The Laboratory was involved in R&D on asphalt pavements and especially anionic emulsions. |
|---|
| 1948 | The Laboratory began operating in modest premises at Lemminkäinens head office building in Helsinki. After the Second World War raw materials were in very short supply, and one of the Laboratorys most important tasks was to monitor the properties of coal tar roofing felt. |
